January 15, 1989 – March 5, 1989

Location: Main Gallery

The District of Columbia Art Association celebrates its 18th anniversary with this retrospective exhibition featuring 62 paintings, sculptures, and works on paper by 35 artists. Works are executed in a variety of media: acrylic, oil, collage, watercolor, mixed media on plywood and copper. Artists whose works are featured in the exhibition include Richard Dempsey, William Dorsey, Jeanne Jarvis, Lois Mailou Jones, LeRoy Lipford, Betty Murchison, Delilah Pierce, and Alma Thomas.

The D.C. Art Association was organized by public school art teachers. Its membership was expanded in 1969 to include artists whose academic training and work experience reflected a continued involvement in the fine arts and visual communications.
