Howard County Center of African-American Culture 5434 Vantage Point Road, Columbia,
MD 21045, 410/ 715-1921. The Center is an educational
resource that promotes greater awareness of African American history in
Howard County. The collection consists of artifacts, murals, recordings
of spirituals-jazz-rap, a library of over 2,000 books on the Black experience,
an African American stamp collection, and memorabilia depicting images
of African Americans over the last 200 years.
Nixon's Farm 200 Nixon's Farm Lane, West
Friendship, MD 21794, This 163-acre working farm has been a family-run operation for over four decades; specializing in catering large group outings, weddings, retreats, family and class reunions, church socials, bridal showers, holiday and special events, and Black History Month presentations. It is the only African American owned and operated facility of its kind in the state.
Benjamin Banneker Historical Park and Museum (Baltimore County)
The legacy of Benjamin Banneker, America's first African American man of mathematics and science, lives on at his homestead and farm. The museum facility offers several gallery spaces, including exhibitions on the life and times of Benjamin Banneker, and a Community Gallery with changing exhibits from the greater community. The 142-acre Banneker Park features a variety of trails, including a historical trail around the museum, an archaeological site, a nature trail, and a historic trolley line trail. The park is a natural stream valley woodland dedicated to the preservation of wildlife habitat and endangered native species.
