Black American church structures are bisible expressions of spirit and faith. They are often solid symbols of the community identity. The buildings lend character and definition to the sklylines and streetscapes of communities across the nation. Many church buildings are key landmarks in their communities.

The United House of Prayer's Charlotte Mission on Seventh Street, northwest Washington, D.C., was recently renovated to incorporate several church architectural and heritage styles.
