Valerie Boyd

Valerie Boyd lives in Atlanta, Georgia. A founding officer of the Alice Walker Liteary Society and a member of the National Book Critics Circle, she has a degree in journalism from Northwestern University and a Master of Fine Arts degree in creative nonfiction writing from Goucher College. She is the author of Wrapped In Rainbows: The Life Of Zora Neale Hurston. Boyd is also an arts editor at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. As a cultural critic and freelance writer, she has published articles, essays, and reviews in numerous publications. She is the founder and co-founder of innovative journals, including EightRock (on African-American arts and culture) and HealthQuest (on African-American health). The American Library Association selected her biography of Hurston for a 2004 Notable Book Award. The Southern Book Critics Circle chose Wrapped In Rainbows for the 2003 Southern Book Award for best nonfiction book of the year.
