The Smithsonian's Anacostia Community Museum is presenting its annual free program in its 2,500-squarefoot main gallery for the first time, offering fun things to do for the whole family in celebration of the museum's 50th anniversary.

The event features a family-style second-line parade down a recreated Bourbon Street with living statues, fortune tellers, caricature and balloon artists, a photo booth, the Crush Funk Brass Band, a French Market and the museum's own Bourbon Street Café.

Visitors will be able to participate in project led by the non-profit group, A Key Idea, to create theme-based art for a future exhibit in the museum's Loggia gallery. Other offerings include storytelling, face painting, arts and crafts activities, stilt walkers and Zydeco music by WPFW-FM DJ Cowboy Fred.

Guided tours will be available of the anniversary exhibition, "Your Community, Your Story Celebrating Five Decades of the Anacostia Community Museum, 1967—2017" on view until Jan. 6, 2019.

A shuttle bus will run to and from the Anacostia Metro station (Green Line) and will meet in the Shannon Place Circle directly across the street from the Metro station.
