- Caption
- A white flower blooms on this round, metal pin. Gold outlines each petal, and the blossom’s stem cleverly emerges from the letter “W” in the initials “NWO” embossed in gold below. The flower’s small, circular center matches the pin’s red background. A bar pin spans the back of the lapel-sized brooch. While its markings remain a mystery, the enameled pin belonged to Ethel L. Payne (1911-1991), a longtime Washington, DC resident who became known as First Lady of the Black Press for her pioneering journalism career.
