- Caption
- Theodore J. Jones (1938-) created this landscape-like abstract using ink, acrylic, and watercolor on paper in 1965. Horizonal washes overlap in a palate of blue, black, purple, orange, and green. In the foreground, one can imagine a small tide pool on a sandy shore. Nearby, the raised black texture of acrylic paint seems to branch out into scrubby bushes. The uppermost blue wash evokes distant mountains. The artwork is one of four by the African American artist in the Anacostia Community Museum’s collection (2002.0002.0009, 2002.0002.0010, 2002.0002.0012). Known for printmaking, sculpture, and photography, Jones taught at Florida A&M, Tennessee State University, and Fisk University
