- This rectangular collage resembles a stained-glass window. Mary Reed Daniel (1946-2006) arranges squares, rectangles, and asymmetrical blocks of watercolored paper on a cream-colored paper sheet. Shades of translucent red deepen where layers overlap. Born in East St. Louis, Illinois, the African American artist studied at Southern Illinois University and owned an art gallery in Chicago.
