- Caption
- A horse leaps gracefully in this rectangular relief carving by artist Ira Blount (1918-2020). The natural grain of the wood suggests the animal’s coat, while its color is reminiscent of a bay or chestnut. Blount creates a sense of movement through the horse’s bent front legs, outstretched haunches, and windswept tail.
- After moving to Washington, DC following World War II, Blount mastered dozens of artisanal crafts. His love for crafting, learning, and community engagement would endure over the course of his long life and career.
