- Caption
- Made by artist Ira Blount (1918-2020), the lid of this rectangular wooden box features a parquet pattern achieved by alternating varying lengths of dark and light wood into an inlaid, geometric design. A handle attached to the top allows the lid to be easily removed from the box below. The edges of the box are rounded, and it is finished with a semi-gloss coating.
- After moving to Washington, DC following World War II, Ira Blount mastered dozens of artisanal crafts. His love for crafting, learning, and community engagement would endure over the course of his long life and career.
