Caption
A dove's silhouette graces the lid of this carved wooden box. A notch on the front of the vessel facilitates the lid’s easy removal. A semi-gloss coating highlights the woods' natural grains, which includes dark, straited lines on the decorated cover and different tones and hues on the bottom.
After moving to Washington, DC following World War II, Ira Blount (1918-2020) mastered dozens of artisanal crafts. His love for crafting, learning, and community engagement would endure over the course of his long life and career.
