- Caption
- Artist Ira Blount captures the form and appearance of an apple in this wood carving. Even the sheen from the coating, which highlights natural variations in color, recalls the shiny fruit. The lifelike sculpted vessel features a slightly irregular shape and a stem. It also functions as a container, as the top can be removed to store items inside.
- After moving to Washington, DC following World War II, Ira Blount mastered dozens of artisanal crafts. His love for crafting, learning, and community engagement would endure over the course of his long life and career.
