Caption
This round basket has a double-lashed rim decorated with double plied twisted seagrass cord. The bottom is made of round reeds, while the sides are made of wood splints woven in a plain weave. Light pencil markings are visible inside the basket. The coated wooden handle is bent in a rectangular shape. The shape and style of the basket give it heft and functionality.
After moving to Washington, DC following World War II, Ira Blount mastered dozens of artisanal crafts. His love for crafting, learning, and community engagement would endure over the course of his long life and career.
