Caption
Printed from a relief carving, the central image on this t-shirt features a silhouetted figure in motion with enormous shoulders and arms captioned “Sanctified Dancer.” The background of the square image, a textured black and white relief print, suggests swirling air and movement. A tilted red square partially overlapped by the image contrasts with the shape and colors of the larger square. Printing this graphic on a t-shirt, a form of public art, provides the possibility of further movement by the wearer of the garment.
Despite enduring difficulties in his early years, Jamieson went on to study at the University of Vermont in Burlington in 1983, where his career in art began. In addition to focusing on art and American history, Jamieson participated in activist causes to advance diversity at his college and end apartheid in South Africa. David B. Jamieson died due to complications from AIDS in 1992.
