Caption
Leyton Wheeler looks straight ahead in this portrait. His wide eyes and arched eyebrows suggest inquisitiveness, while his tie and neat, closely cropped haircut implies a certain formality.
Although few details remain about Wheeler’s life, in 1977, the Anacostia Neighborhood Museum’s Board of Directors voted to include Wheeler’s portrait in “Phil Ratner’s Washington,” an exhibition honoring current and former Anacostia residents who contributed to the civic life of the community.
