Caption
This round serving platter with a large decorated lid was used to serve banquet foods at Hollywood East Café, a popular Chinese restaurant in Wheaton, MD specializing in Cantonese and Hong Kong-style cuisine. The golden color and dragon motif symbolize royalty and are commonly used for weddings and other festive occasions, which are an occasion for Washington, DC area Chinese to share a meal and form personal, social, and business connections, a practice known in Chinese as guanxi.
