Caption
This red, black, and white round pinback button was part of a national campaign to stop dioxin exposure. Dioxins, a group of chemical compounds mostly by-products of industrial and combustion processes, are highly toxic and carcinogenic. The campaign was promoted by the Citizens Clearinghouse for Hazardous Waste, Inc. (now the Center for Health, Environment & Justice).
The button is among more than 200 collected by Washington, DC-based environmental justice advocate Vernice Miller-Travis.
