This round pinback button promoted Anacostia’s performing arts and cultural center 8Rock. The name of the venue, slang meaning “a real black person”, is printed on the pin in white against a fuchsia background. 8Rock opened in the 1990s in the District’s Ward 8.
The button is among more than 200 collected by longtime Anacostia resident and social justice advocate Howard Croft.
