Gift of the Family of Howard Croft
This triangular pinback button promoted candidates Wyatt Closs and Aquel Brisbane in the 2004 elections of Local 36 of the Service Employees International Union. The pin, in purple, gold, and white, features a drawing of a raised fist at the center, above “NU / 36”, all in white against a purple background. The three sides of the triangular pin read “Wyatt”, “Aquel”, and “New Unity for SEIU Local 36” in yellow. Closs run for president of the local union, while Brisbane was hoping to serve as secretary-treasurer, but ultimately both candidates were defeated.
The button is among more than 200 collected by longtime Anacostia resident and social justice advocate Howard Croft.
