Caption
This round pinback button advocated for the statehood of the District of Columbia. The pin features the number 51 in white inscribed inside the silhouette of the district map in red. A referendum held in 2016 showed the majority of DC residents were in favor of statehood, which would make Washington the United States 51st state.
The button is among more than 200 collected by longtime Anacostia resident and social justice advocate Howard Croft.
