This lapel pin in the shape of a football player sitting down represents San Francisco 49ers player Colin Kaepernick. The quarterback is dressed in the team’s red, gold, and white colors and features the number 7 on his chest. Kaepernick gained notoriety in 2016 when he started sitting down, then kneeling, during the playing of the national anthem at NFL games to protest racism and police brutality.
The button is among more than 200 collected by longtime Anacostia resident and social justice advocate Howard Croft.
