- This spoon was used by customers at Nam Viet Restaurant in the Clarendon neighborhood of Arlington, VA. One of the restaurant's specialties is phở, a Vietnamese noodle soup consisting of a rich bone broth, rice noodles, meat, and herbs. There are numerous regional variations in style and flavors. In Saigon, phở tends to have a sweeter broth, while soups from the northern part of Vietnam use fewer spices.
- When Nam Viet first opened in 1983, it served a mostly Southeast Asian clientele. The Clarendon neighborhood was known as "Little Saigon" because of its large population of Vietnamese and Southeast Asian immigrants, many of them refugees from the Vietnam War. As the neighborhood has developed and changed, the restaurant has adapted its fare. It remains a family operation in the 2020s.
