Disaster Service Work

Food bank pop-up

Many people that work for the City & County have been activated as Disaster Service Workers. Some specialized in contact tracing, others monitoring the homeless hotels, while a large portion worked at food bank pop-up pantries. As someone that grew up donating money to the food bank, I didn’t realize all that goes into distributing food to those in need. Given the current economic situation of widespread layoffs, there has been an increase of clients. In order to accommodate the public and maintain social distancing, the pop-ups were hosted in unconventional place If you’re from the SF bay area, when you think of the Cow Palace you think of giant crowds to see performers. Imagine those same crowds in need of food.
