The African American community is chronicled through photographs taken in the 1930s and 1940s by 6 African Americans. These works by Robert H. McNeill, Gordon Parks, Robert and George Scurlock, and Morgan and Marvin Smith reveal the richness and depth of urban and rural Black America at the height of segregation by documenting important social and historical events in thriving communities.
